India's main opposition, the Indian National Congress party, has announced its plan to march to the Supreme Court. The party intends to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, citing allegations of vote fraud as the basis for their call.
Demand for Resignation
The Congress party stated its intention to submit a memorandum to Chief Justice Surya Kant as part of their protest. The central demand is the removal of Commissioner Kumar due to what they describe as widespread irregularities in the electoral process, specifically focusing on alleged vote fraud.
Chief Justice's Refusal
Chief Justice Surya Kant has declined to meet with the opposition leaders. He explained his refusal by noting that several cases related to the revision of electoral rolls are currently pending before the Supreme Court. These cases involve reports of 130 million people being removed from the voter lists.
