Extraterrestrial Real Estate – Can You Buy Property in Space?

Individuals from Yemen sued NASA in 1977 for landing on Mars without permission. They declared that they had inherited the planet from their ancestors approximately 3,000 years ago.

Have you ever thought about investing in extraterrestrial properties? It sounds like a bizarre idea, but it’s a common practice. People believe that humanity’s survival depends on colonizing celestial bodies like the Moon and Mars. Some individuals started investing in extraterrestrial properties through various space real estate agencies. These agencies charge an exorbitant amount and provide a certificate of ownership so that your future generations can build a huge village in outer space.

Different state agencies charge different amounts for a piece of land on celestial bodies. For example, lunar land sellers typically charge £16.75 for a one-acre plot. The amount, however, is considerably different for the planet Mars. But why is it different? Agencies charge more for a ‘Martian Action’ because people plan to colonize it in the near future. Space X and NASA are already planning to take individuals to Mars to make it habitable for humans. The aforementioned process will begin in 2024. Some professionals are currently being trained and prepared for a mission to Mars.

In addition, large corporations, businessmen and renowned politicians have their eyes on Luna and its countless resources. Experts claim that the moon, in general, has many hidden treasures. However, scientists need resources and technology to dig them up. Said claims have caused competition among the wealthy individuals of planet Earth.

Under Article II of the 1967 United Nations Outer Space Treaty, no country can claim possession of the Moon. However, a man named Dennis Hope defied the law and spoke out against it. According to Hope, the aforementioned treaty does not prevent individuals from claiming a piece of land on the Moon or any other celestial body. He wrote a letter to the United Nations notifying them that he owned the Moon and began selling pieces of land on it. According to reports, he has sold over 16 billion acres of lunar real estate to over seven million individuals since 1980. People belonging to over 197 different countries have purchased different parts of Luna through his company called Lunar Embassy. He made a lot of money when he sold a country-sized moon plot for over $250,000.

Hope is known as the first extraterrestrial real estate mogul. Furthermore, he formed his own government in 2004 to give full rights to people investing in lunar properties. China’s space program recently announced that it would send a rover to the Moon. Dennis Hope sent them a letter in which he graciously granted them permission to explore the moon. However, he informed them that any permanent agreement would have to be obtained through a lease with the owner of the property.

But is all this cool? No, it’s not. He does not own the Moon nor does he own Pluto, which he offers in its entirety for $250,000.

Hope is not the only person who has claimed to own the Moon. Three Yemeni men sued NASA in 1977 for landing on Mars without their permission. They declared that they had inherited the planet from their ancestors approximately 3,000 years ago. His claim was based on the beliefs of Himyarite and Sabean civilizations, which existed approximately between 2,000 and 3,000 BC.

Humanity is really making progress in terms of technology, and soon we will be able to walk on Mars. However, I would not suggest investing millions and billions in one of the heavenly bodies. No one can really own a piece of land outside of Earth right now. Extraterrestrial real estate agents are robbing people by selling something that doesn’t even exist. Humans first need to discover ways in which they can permanently reside in outer space.
