During a business meeting, Elon Musk suddenly starts talking about aliens

“Can we travel to other star systems and see if there are extraterrestrial civilizations? »

CEO vs aliens

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, spoke to Twitter employees for the very first time today, months after announcing plans to buy the social network.

But at one particular point, Musk deviated from the discussion of potential layoffs and content moderation to tackle an entirely unexpected topic: aliens.

According to CNBC’s report of the closed meeting, Musk took the time to discuss human consciousness and the fact that he still hasn’t seen any real evidence of extraterrestrials.

“Can we travel to other star systems and see if there are extraterrestrial civilizations? he reportedly said during the meeting, as Insider reports, adding that there may be “long dead” civilizations to be discovered as well.

Musk may not have been able to read the room, with a potentially drastic restructuring unsettling current Twitter employees. Apart from remarks about aliens, the billionaire CEO hasn’t ruled out the possibility of layoffs if Twitter continues to spend more than it earns.

Musk also reaffirmed that he would allow users to “say some pretty outrageous things within the law,” while adding that those potentially hurtful comments shouldn’t necessarily be amplified.

He also indicated that he would like to start charging users to verify their identity.

In short, the topics of aliens and human consciousness are well-rehearsed talking points for Musk – but was this really the most appropriate time to bring them up, with tensions high and thousands of livelihoods at stake?

Either way, it highlighted Elon Musk’s number one rule: expect the unexpected.
